As applications for our 2024/2025 ‘Dough for the People’ Community Grants come to a close, we are reflecting on our 2023 grant recipients, and in particular, the fantastic work undertaken by the team at the Geeveston Community Centre.

Geeveston Community Centre Inc, known locally as GeCo, is Australia’s southernmost Neighbourhood House and is part of the Neighbourhood House Tasmania (NHT) network. GeCo was established 31 years ago and is located in the beautiful township of Geeveston.

The GeCo team used their grant to put towards funding their community food pantry, which services people in acute need. Over the last 10 months, GeCo have supported 211 adults and 97 children in emergency food relief and an additional 33 families over the Christmas period through a food drive.

GeCo Centre Manager Nicole and Program manager Trish recently said “with thanks to funding from Cripps, we were able to make a shift into a grocery model (rather than a prepacked food box) so recipients could select the foods best suited to their/their family’s needs.

We are so proud of our partnership with the GeCo team and the programs they have implemented over the last 12 months to support vulnerable members of their local community – keep up the amazing work!
